I have to admit: I’m an outfit repeater.
And before I give myself too much credit as an eco-conscious, slow fashion girlie, you must know—I’m an outfit repeater because I’m lazy, not because I care (although I do care, a lot). My laziness just so happens to coincide with my values.
Merely a happy accident.
But lately I’ve been very unenthusiastic about getting dressed, and I really want to change that. I’m determined to keep my underconsumption game strong and continue wearing the same things over and over, but this time on purpose. And make it cute.
In my last post, I proudly touted my near-perfect mend on my thrifted cashmere sweater. Thrilled with the result, I thought the sweater deserved a bit more attention.
So, I started with a Japanese color book to gather some inspiration.
While I love looking at complementary colors and the challenge of building an outfit around them, I honestly don’t have a very expansive closet. So these wild color combos weren’t just outside of my comfort zone, they were outside of my abilities (without a trip to the thrift store, which I was very tempted to do).

I was able to put together 7 looks. And while I definitely won’t be your next style influencer, I really enjoyed the challenge of making it work. Plus, I liked the added bonus of realizing that if I spend more than 2 seconds planning my ‘fit, I actually have way more options than I ever really thought.
Thankfully, it was a mild week in terms of winter in Northeast Ohio. But on the times that I did have to add my winter coat, I didn’t include it in the photo (function over fashion—she’s bulky).
Sometimes, when I talk about natural fibers, natural dyes, and local, fair labor, it gets overwhelming to think about the sheer excess of plastic clothes and fast fashion pieces taking over the world (and aren’t going away anytime soon). In those moments, it’s really nice to just take a beat and focus on what I can control: The pieces already in my closet. I love this idea of giving so much attention to one item. It makes me wonder what else I can come up with.
